In 2006 Prof Essau initiated the International Conference on Child and Adolescent Psychopathology (ICCAP) to promote the study, prevention and treatment of mental disorders and disabilities among children and adolescents.
The ICCAP is an annual 3-day event that takes place in July at Whitelands College, University of Roehampton in South West London. Each year, ICCAP attracts academics and practitioners from 40 countries to discuss state-of-the-art research on various aspects of child and adolescent psychopathology. Delegates include: Researchers, practitioners and policy makers working within youth health and mental health, paediatrics, public health, nursing, education, social work, and youth justice systems.
Building on its success in London, Sarawak Government and Sarawak Convention Bureau had supported the 13th ICCAP to bring experts in children and youth health to Kuching under the conference theme, “Enhancing resilience in children, young people and families through innovative research, prevention and service development” in August 2018. The ICCAP2018 was attended by approximately 700 delegates.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 15th ICCAP which was scheduled to take place from July 13-15, 2020 had to be cancelled.
